September 11th 2001 became known as the time when democracy was attacked. We saw burning buildings and thousands of innocent civilians killed. Western countries were united under the auspices of the U.S. to oppose terrorism. This is not the first tragic September 11th. In 1973, Chile's army attacked the castle, in which the democratically elected president Salvador Allende was residing. The media showed a burning building, diving planes and killed citizens. The operation was supported by the United States. In the ensuing military dictatorship thousands of Chileans go through centers for torture, concentration camps or disappeared without a trace. General Augusto Pinochet declared that the purpose of the military actions was to save the country from the totalitarian system of communism. Before us is an open question: How far can we get to keep our democracy?

The book presents the demographic path of Bulgaria from 135 years ago until now, marked by its historical fate and the experienced national drama and trials. Part of it is the modern, yet unknown in scale and scope demographic crisis which gives rise to the worrying issue "Will there be a Bulgaria?" The author follows the population policy and its priorities for enhancing the role of the demographic factors in its development, compensation for loss of human potential, management of migratory movements and placement of refugees, strengthening the family institution and the promotion of fertility, balancing the intergenerational relationships. The book presents national experience in the field of state aid for population reproduction, a certain capital to meet the current challenges, associated with our numerical decline and aging of the population during an alarming increase in mortality. Due attention is given to the future development of the population, focusing on the historical experience of demographic policies , taking into account the new realities that require modern approaches. The main lesson from the centuries of experience in the development of the Bulgarian nation is that it is able to overcome a lot of historical turbulence and take the path of creation again because of its strong instinct for preservation and multiplication of the Bulgarian family.

It also presents materials about unjustly forgotten Bulgarians, such as: Anzhelo Kuiumiundzhiiski; the first Bulgarian Rotarian – Subi Dimitrov; the adventurers-brothers Ivanovi - Nikola, Todor, Lazar, Mikhail and Boris who organized the assassination of the ex-prime minister of Bulgaria Stefan Stambolov (1985).    Nowadays the Bulgarian army and its soldiers are barely talked about inside the country, and even less abroad. But it was not always so, as “Svetut za bulgarskiia voin" shows us - a book, a document and a record at the same time about the most impressive symbol of the revived in the XIX century Bulgaria. Its author Dimitar Dimitrov has been collection for years authentic texts and illustrations in Western magazines and books from the second half of the XIX century and early XX century, when the Bulgarian soldiers often stood in the front pages of leading European magazines such as "L'Illustration" and "The Illustrated London News". This book is truly unique not only because of its content, but also with the fact that all publications are presented in original and in Bulgarian translation. The first book of the trilogy "Svetut na bulgarskiia voin" covers the period from the Nish Bulgarian uprising of 1841 to the Balkan Wars – 1912. A key event in this period is the Serbo-Bulgarian war in 1885 and, as the book illustrates, it was paramount news for Europe and the leading Western publications, which reflected it not only by messages, but also with many illustrations of events. French, German, English, Italian writers - of which the original languages can also be read to their Bulgarian translation - celebrate the martial qualities of the Bulgarian and talk with superlatives for his endurance.

This book’s subject is the history of “Durzhavna sigurnost” – the Bulgarian National Security in the period of the communist rule (1945-1989). Life in the Bulgarian state after the revival of its autonomy and independence in 1978, is imbued with growing political opposition. Initially it flows between the two main political entities - the Conservative and the Liberal Party, but acquires a new quality and massiveness after the creation of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party in 1892 and the Bulgarian Agrarian Union in 1899. The steadily formed bipolar left - right political model in the early twentieth century, fading in the second half of it and its unfolding again at the beginning of the XXI century, engaging in opposition to government power and repressive state organs – purely political initially and later - special. Until the end of World War II the right is a constant winner. In the 45 years from 1944 to 1989, the roles are reversed – the left returns and takes revenge for the troubles and misfortunes that the poor have suffered from the ruling bourgeoisie. The result is a complete Sovietization of the public political life and the accumulation of a critical mass of new public controversy. The period covering the last two decades in which we are active participants in general leads to democratization with uncertain prospects for the development of society and the security services.

This book is not only a historical work on the idea embedded in it. The author is a familiar figure in the Bulgarian society in the last two decades with his publishing, but he is also an active participant in the construction of the socialism in the last two decades before he came down from the stage of history. The aim therefore is to present the facts as they are reflected in official documents and statistical reference books from the period 1944-1989 as well as the personal evaluations of the author as a participant in some of the events described, but without the ideologically burdened and those nostalgic about the "good old times". The study is an attempt for a politic-free message to the current and future readers to remind them the created and the unfulfilled by their predecessors as part of the history of the Bulgarian state, but comparable to the development of Europe and the world. The book will be useful to future researchers of Bulgarian history in the twentieth century - with its achievements and social features, but also with the delusions, failures and missed opportunities for the state and society. Like any other work, it challenges its critics. In this case, the most important criterion is the young people who have realized that there is nothing more important and useful than the Truth.

The book is an exciting story about the events from the creation of the island country (Cyprus) to the end of the military confrontation in 1974 and its consequences. Described are the political-military situation that gave rise to the crisis, the stages of preparation and conduct of combat operations. The narrative is supported by over 50 illustrations for the course of events. The aim is to give a typical example of the development of a non-military crisis brought about for political reasons by the use of ethnic tensions between communities that previously lived peacefully and have helped each other in the everyday life. For a short time the accumulation of too many policy mistakes escalates to armed confrontation with tragic consequences for the fate of hundreds of thousands of people. Such situations are typical for the entire Balkan Peninsula and most probably will continue to be created in the future. Regardless of Bulgaria’s membership in new successive allied systems the lessons from the Cyprus war need to be recalled again to help us think and act in the right direction.

Under the influence of the European ideas of new material and spiritual culture, he went to Paris, where for four years (1841-1845) he studied law. In Paris he quickly got accustomed to the big European culture and absorbed the ideas of liberalism, democracy and parliamentarianism, views on freedom of the press and speech... in brief, the principles on which to build the future world. Of great importance for his later public activity was his close communication with the group of Bulgarian students, who played a significant role in the magnitude of the Bulgarian national advancement. Upon his arrival back to Bulgaria, Ivan Penchovich went to work in the commercial house of his father, and together with another large retailer, they founded the company "Klichan, Penchevich i sin".

Ivo Androvski is among the contemporary authors whose questing spirit is tempted by both the populated with images and metaphors world of fiction and the hot topics of our historical medieval studies. In his historical studies, the author persistently traces the roots and traces of the Bulgarians far beyond current limits. Meeting with their representatives, he wrote a number of articles to recall, that although far from us, the other Bulgarians exist and are real, like burning glow of embers. In the book, the author examines the contribution of Danubian Bulgaria to the repelling of the Arab invasion in 717 to 718 in Europe, he points out that in the first decades of its existence the Bulgarian state is crucial for protecting Europe against the powerful Arab invasions, and the conservation of the still early Christian civilization. Another highlight of the collection is the interesting information about Pop Bogomil in the annals of the Volga Bulgarians. The major contribution point in the article is that it addresses the spreading of the Bogomil movement in the eastern parts of the continent - the territory of Volga Bulgaria. The collection follows the first evidence of settlement of the Bulgarians in Bessarabia after the death of Khan Kubrat, the military reverses and the performances of the Bulgarian morale in this strategic region in VII-XIV century. The book rediscovers the spiritual boundaries of the Bulgarian identity. It nourishes the reader with a sense of national Bulgarian pride which withstood all difficulties, and continues to live far from the borders of our country.

"Those who have not succumbed to external suggestions of despair and despondency, of dogmas and ideologies, remained in the field, plowed by male power, selfless dedication, with thought and care about the future of the fragmented nation. The furrow, which they paved, turned out to be deep and fruitful. From the seeds sown in it came the incredible miracle in the Bulgarian national life – VMRO, the organization that pulled the people out of the grip of grief, revived their will to fight, organized them under the banner of the most human ideal - freedom, it caused all the world to look at Bulgaria and Macedonia.    This book explores some of the challenges to the male hegemony in the modern social, cultural and political history of Bulgaria, 1878-1944. The book puts the Bulgarian developments in the Balkans and Europe, outlines policy contradictions and tensions in the national history, making the term "gender" one of the main categories of historical analysis. The author suggests that the Bulgarian society and culture are neither more nor less "patriarchal" than other societies in Europe and the world as a whole, that progressive people of both sexes are considered the solution of the so-called female subject and the equality of women and men for sine qua non of the national engineering, they saw in it the key to building harmonious and successful functioning societies.

This is the first volume of the series "Nova istoriia na Bulgariia" (Modern History of Bulgaria). In 1879, on the political map of Europe appears another country, coming out of the Ottoman Empire - the Bulgarian principality. For the first time since the XIV century near the city of Kings appears not one, but two Bulgarian states. The empires disintegrate slowly, but the countries that appear in their place, often have to show, as briefly and concisely as possible, that they can not only govern themselves, but also build their own destiny. This marks the beginning of the most turbulent, romantic, often tragic, but never quiet time in our modern state.

An interesting fact is that the French author is oriented towards the information from Anglo-Saxon travelers who had crossed the Balkans during the Ottoman period. His reasons are related to the fact that the Francophone texts from the past centuries were more familiar than the English ones. Due to the remoteness of England, they sometimes did not overlap with other travelogues of Western Europe. It should be noted that in Volume VII of the series ""Chuzhdi putepisi za Balkanite”, dedicated to the British travelogues (1987), Mishel Leo’s book is stated as the only book on this subject, which is the work of no other, but a Frenchman, who provides a comprehensive overview of the information about the history of the Bulgarians under the Ottoman rule; the fact is that this initiative opens a page that the Sources in the Balkans will support in the 70s-80s of the XX century.

"... I know that the fight against the mafia isn’t majestic and living heroes are rarely seen. The proponents of the ordinary human values in it do not fall as heroic as the Spartans at the Thermopylae, nor like the residents of Batak in that bloody April, or as the soldiers from the Ninth Division in the Pleven division in Doiran ... The mafia victims go quietly, sometimes undermined and compromised. A martyrs’ fate. Society rarely praises them; it denies them even simple empathy. And that’s why this book is written. Writing is my way to express pain, suffering, doubt and longing. It is my own resistance." The author. This book is an attempt for tracing the history of Mafia in Soviet USSR and Bulgaria which the author knows very well from its origin. The book tells about the criminal world, tells about the Mafia bosses’ lives as well as about some of the most influential personalities in the economical and political elite in Bulgaria. It reminds us about some important events from the last years of the social and political life of Bulgaria; it reveals facts which have happened in the past and which happen now on the “backstage”. The author tells about the democratic transition of Bulgaria which began on November, 10th 1989 and which still continues, about the assassinations of influential persons, the corruption on all stages of the authority, the robberies in the form of “privatization”.

This is volume 1 of the "Tamplierstvoto i masonstvoto" series. In a very dark and closed world the longing for light is suspicious. So its priests were persecuted and destroyed. In an over-lit world, twilight and shadow are craved. But also examined. The closed behind the rituals and symbols enlightenment communities for centuries have been placed under suspicion. And under indictment. A long chain of revenge that runs through Socrates, Pythagoras, Gnostic, Hermetic, Alchemist, Jacques de Molay ... to reach into its profane versions until today. The author of this book professes belief that Enlightenment communities are not only a thing of the past. They are not an anachronism - prop reproduction of exotic ritual practices and ceremonial relations. Contrary, in clear understanding of their mission, they may be important part of the life of modern humanity. This is because they cultivate virtues, unite around causes, form the very fabric of wisdom. We can hardly doubt that in the world of easy manipulation and too strong passions, wisdom is more than necessary.

The second volume of "Tamplierstvo i masonstvo" is turned specifically to the history of the Templars and the Masons. Actually, this is about a look at a very old interlacing of the historical and the legendary. The history, understood as an attempt to research the past events on the basis of documents and credible evidence. The legends, understood as an untenable fusing of facts and fictions, like a game of imagination with distances and time gaps. The legend, acting as a mechanism for identification, as an opportunity to rally the community around remarkable events and challenging past. In a history-legendary context - the author traces the links between the Templars and the Masons. "Tamplierstvo i masonstvo" is a guide book - a book that allows the ignorant to know more. A book that wishes to destroy at least the most hardened prejudices. A book that has a cause and stands behind it.

The present edition in 2 volumes contains one of the masterpieces by the famous Bulgarian publicist, historian diplomat and revolutionary from the lands of Macedonia – Simeon Radev (1879-1967). This work belongs also to the masterpieces of the Bulgarian historical journalism due to its expression and style as well as to the truths about the history of Bulgaria. The Radev’s idea by publishing the first edition of this work was to present the arguments, mostly from the Western World, to the hostile to Bulgaria civilized but warring world in the end of World War 1 that Macedonia belongs to Bulgaria and that its population was a part of the Bulgarian people. In World War 2 Simeon Radev revised the first edition of the book and prepared for publishing it in 2 volumes by titling the first volume “Borbite za narodnost i narodna tsurkva” (“Struggles for Nationality and National Church”) and the second – “Borba za narodno edinstvo i svoboda” (“Struggle for National Unity and Freedom”). The first volume was published in 1943 in the printing house of Skopie as volume 3 from the set "Biblioteka Bulgarska Kniga", but it was never released to the readers. Only a few single copies of it kept in author's personal archive were found. Volume 2 was intended for publishing as volume 7 from the set mentioned above, but it was never published. It was found only as a draft.

For the first time to the reader are presented new ethnographic materials for national and ethnic minorities in Montenegro (Montenegrins, Serbs, Bosniaks, Muslims and Roma groups). The book can be placed among the authoritative and comprehensive studies for former Yugoslavia.

This Name list of the Bulgarian khans (rulers) is a short record containing the names and families of some early Bulgarian rulers. It also refers to the dates of their ascension to the throne and the duration of their rule, including the time when they were co-ruler or in a civil war. Interestingly, the title of Khan is not mentioned in any of those names. The only mentioned title, which referred to Asparouh and his five predecessors, was Prince. According to Stefan Chureshki in this book, the names of Bulgarian princes (khans) originate from a Sarmatian naming tradition of the Bosporus Kingdom in the early years after Christ, which is explained by the fact that the old Great Bulgaria included Sarmatian territory and population of the Bosporus Kingdom with its most important cities Chersonese, Olbia and Fanagoria. For example the royal name Oumor at the end of the List is present among the names of the kings of the Bosporus inscriptions in the form Omaros. The generic name Ermi is found in the inscriptions of the kings of Bosporus as Hermas. The generic name Doulo is places in close similarity with the royal name Dulas in the inscriptions of the Bosporus.

In this book, published in France in 2012, Tsvetan Todorov directs a critical look at the modern democracy. Today it has no explicit enemies, but creates an undesirable phenomena which Todorov calls "intimate enemies". He has highlighted specific three among them: Messianism /exporting democracy by force/, ultra-liberalism and populism. Todorov follows them analytically as a historian of ideas - in their background , evolution and their many contemporary forms of expression... Alien to the spirit of negation, the criticism of Todorov helps to better understand the world in which we live. And to live so that it can have a real democracy and more humanity in it.

This monograph is devoted to a remarkable monument of the Bulgarian medieval art - architecture and painting. And at the same time it is one of the most controversial ones. For it is almost universally accepted and implicit, that it is a work of the Byzantine Metropolitan Architecture from the XI century, and its mural decoration - made of Constantinople Art School, represents its most notable achievement, as far as we know. And it reflects most accurately the Christian Orthodox aesthetics, and fully complies with the principles of the Orthodox theology expressed also in the patron of the church. The main study of architecture and mural paintings, which draw the theme and content of this monograph, will show that none of these claims of the historians of medieval art corresponds to the actual situation.

This is the tenth of twelve volume series in which will be published the prologue texts of the Turnovo edition of "The Prologue in Verse". It is based on the oldest precisely dated Bulgarian manuscripts from the middle of the 14th century. The texts are compared with the earliest Serbian and Russian copies of "The Prologue in Verse". The prologue verses are translated in contemporary Bulgarian language. The lexical index just for June contains 6807 lexical forms with 16,522 variants of use of these forms. This reveals the unknown richness of the Bulgarian literary language during the middle Bulgarian period of its development. The series is intended for medievists, clerics, students, teachers and who are interested in Old Bulgarian Literature.

The work of Gligor Bozhinoski is dedicated to an interesting problem - the study of the hand projectile from XIII - XIV century - the bow, the arrows and the crossbows in the Republic of Macedonia and the related questions about the origin, characteristics and their systematization. The period is particularly interesting because the patterns of the western weapons, including crossbows, are distributed in the western territories of the Golden Horde, and some specimens of the eastern arms penetrate the West. Of course, the history of the Balkans is largely related to the military art of Byzantium, so it is even more interesting to find the parallels between the manual missiles from western and eastern territories of the Empire.

To write about the artist from Brezovo (Zlatio Boiadzhiev), you need to have a specific attitude and sense: for the Boiana master, for Kolio Ficheto, and surely to have read Iovkov, Radichkov... This book is not a biography in the strict sense of the word, but sparks from the fire of a falling star. The careful adherence to the chronology of events and facts contributed to a deeper and more meaningful penetration of a hectic life. The life of Zlatio Boiadzhiev is like a lit sky meadow.

Cyril Popov’s "Stranitsi ot kartini" (Pages from Pictures) is a scholarly chronicle of the Bulgarian visual arts at the turn of the century. It reconstructs the creative worlds of dozens of painters who have contributed to the constructive tendencies of Bulgarian painting and sculpture before and after the political changes, bringing about accumulations that cannot be always appreciated as positive. The book describes new moments of the appropriation of artistic values and experience, when art starts functioning independently of the social system. Interpreted with a heightened awareness of nuances in style, the work of painters and sculptors is not represented as the culmination and end of a violent movement but rather as an upsurge, revealing the efforts to catch up with the modern art of the West. Pages from Pictures a broad picture of the contemporary problems of artistic creation in Bulgaria. The book is a kind of anthology of stilhouettes (an authorial coinage, blending style with silhouette, described by Vikhren Chernokozhev as “a conceptual, formative critical metaphor, giving the clue the critical readings”), that make no claim to any comprehensiveness. The author hopes it will be helpful to art collectors, arousing their interest in the names of contemporary artists, whose work is discussed as liberated from ideological dictates and guidelines. The author’s free selection of various public events in the space of the Bulgarian visual arts over the past quarter of a century does not neglect the presence of super-vanguard outrages or acts that would pass for vanguard, without having much to do with that phenomenon. Pages from Pictures has been reviewed by Professor Valentin Kolev and Professor Stanislav Pamoukchiev of the National Academy of Art in Sofia. It has been supervised and published by Professor Chavdar Popov and Professor Bouyan Filchev of St. Kliment Okhridski Sofia University. The book contains notes, self-citations and parts of first publications, a Dictionary of Ctitical Terms, an Index of the Names, 32 colorful illustrations of pictures, and annotations in Russian, English and German. The study will be of equal interest to specialists and the general reader.

Sofia” in 1911-12 the archaeologist Bogdan Filov, 28 years old back then, found traces of two buildings on the same site, the latter of which has occupied the space of the present church, and its floors were covered with mosaic size 144 square meters. For his studies he destroys the mosaic, and beneath the earthworks embankment separating the church from the ground, he found another mosaic from another destroyed building, which he believed to be the oldest church building in our land.    Second revised edition. The book reviews the architectural forms and compositions of the Bulgarian medieval and Renaissance architecture in the Bulgarian town of Koprivshtitsa, principles and techniques applied in the works of the old masters - an area that in our country is still undeveloped. Presented are the practical ways and means of composing, the result of which was an established harmony of medieval and Renaissance architecture in Koprivshtitsa . In the book you’ll find the author's research in terms of resources and systems, which are used to achieve completion of individual monuments and architectural ensembles. Presented are some original and restored plans of the old masters in order to uncover the mystery of their creative process. The connection between their creative and theoretical views and their practical techniques lead to a new form of specific research in Koprivshtitsa’s architectural heritage. The text is richly illustrated with drawings and photographs. This expanded second edition is intended for architects, designers, restorers, researchers, students of architecture, and for all who are interested in the Bulgarian architectural heritage.

This monograph, written in Bulgarian, examines the mechanism of the offense by the word in the perspective of the interdisciplinary engagement in a common platform for various theoretical models and approaches (semantic, semiotic, pragmatic, structure-logical, psycho-sociopragmatic). The Bulgarian and French are used as tools for understanding the insult inside a person and the insult towards the person in the context of the public perception. The monograph consists of three parts. They are the axis around which, in various proportions and scales, the survey is deployed: the insulting word, the objects of the insulting words and the structures of the offensive speech. Solved are the following tasks: study interpretations of the term "offense" from different perspectives, derived modalities that govern relations between the person who insults, the insulted and third participants - present/observers; clear interaction of offensive speech and expression of aggression, hate speech, free speech and the French-Bulgarian research approaches towards the offensive word, classification if the insulted word systematization of the formal expressions of the offensive speech.

Like any schoolar work, the book of Georgi Velev can cause questions and disagreements to arise, but that's what makes it even more valuable as it will undoubtedly encourage further scientific research. Perhaps the most significant, however, is the conclusion of the author, "that the system of the Bulgarian folk calendar holidays is adapted to the realities of the Julian calendar and the Christian religion. I doubt that we can add something to his finding that the Bulgarian calendar's holiday tradition is purely Bulgarian, so there's no room for Roman, Greek or Slavic explanations of its essence.

This work contains extremely valuable ideas that can be fruitfully elaborated by both literary critics and the historians, sociologists, philosophers and cultural anthropologists. And above all - by the author. The text of E. Dimitrov is a comprehensive theoretical study, which is a very pleasant - and bitingly witty - read. Impressive is the breadth of the research work. The work is a very interesting monograph, written competently, erudite and easy to read. In the work of Emil Dimitrov is demonstrated an ability to outline the specifics of the literary fact on a broad socio-cultural background, the intellectual courage not to be silent about "sensitive" for the masses and the "official" reception of literary names, facts and themes, honesty and clarity of scientific expression, the openness of the research "lab" and the enthusiasm of the humanitarian researcher.

The Christian fiction has a difficult task: to be like any other fiction literature and yet - to be strongly distinguishable. It needs the typical for the artistic word expressions, and when it comes to novel, it needs a plot, a narrator, characters, a space in which the story takes place, and the time in which to unfold. It needs narrative traditions and techniques as a foundation. And last but not least – it needs the author's vivid presence, of genre and thematic diversity, of good style. What are then the essential features that make a Christian work what it is? And where is the line, separating it from the other works? These and other questions related to them are discussed in this book.

The main purpose of the handbook is to present the differences between the rules of spelling, punctuation and style of the text contained in "Nov pravopisen rechnik na bulgarskiia ezik” (New Bulgarian Spelling Dictionary) of publishing house "Hazel" in 2002, and the newly "Ofitsialen pravopisen rechnik na bulgarskiia ezik” (Official Bulgarian Spelling Dictionary) published by "Prosveta", 2012. The objective is all who want, to get acquainted with the changes in a more compact form. Therefore, the handbook states what is discharged, replaced, changed or added to the "Ofitsialen pravopisen rechnik na bulgarskiia ezik" in comparison with the previous dictionary, without listing all the rules. The tasks are divided into 15 tests; they are not designed to test the level of knowledge of all spelling and punctuation rules. Preferred are mostly test problems, requiring the application of new, changed or unchanged, but often violated rules.

In the basis of this study are two more general and more comprehensive projects: to study classical literature and ancient political theory. In this case, the book offers observations on a more private cultural phenomenon that incorporates both initial orientations, because it finds its expression in the field of the literary and the political - imitation, mimesis, as an essential act of creating works of art on one hand, but also acting and guidance to community members on the other hand. The analyzed evidence is mainly from the last Platonic dialogue "Laws", but also are interpreted key passages from "The State" and some other works of Plato. For a starting point of the study can be referred the thought of Plato: "Our whole polity is built like an imitation of the most beautiful and most worthy life" (Laws, VII, 817b).

This monograph shows the potential of the Bulgarian folk proverbs in their quality as educational resources for Bulgarian children in preschool and primary school age living abroad. The book is an attempt, based on the idea of preserving the national in a rapidly changing modern world to outline the pedagogical guidance with two main focuses. The first relates to the supply of an original program for organizing the educational content under the "Bulgarian language and literature" direction in the preparatory group of Bulgarian schools abroad about a special set of proverbs, tailored to a better comprehension by migrant children. The second focus is centered on a suitable for 6-8 year olds selection of Bulgarian and Greek proverbs, which are aimed at an intercultural education of Bulgarian children living in Greece.

The study is devoted to the history of the Old Bulgarian textological collection "Zlatostrui", of its sources and its successors in the medieval Slavic literatures and a real challenge to the vast amount of material and the numerous opportunities for scientific inquiry that it provides. The monograph of Dr. Iavor Miltenov tells the story of the collection, the characteristics of the sources, the translation and compiling principles. By analyzing the heirs of Zlatostrui in the medieval Slavic literature, the author displays the making of translations and compiler anthologies, of "choise-makers" as the basis, and perhaps the most important line in the transition from using Byzantine models to building a unique Bulgarian literature. This is an extremely labor intensive, precise and valuable research in the field of the Slavic and Byzantine Textology, but also in the field of the Old Bulgarian literary language, literature, history, archeography and knowledge of the sources.

When did the selection of the hull of canonical texts begin, the structure of "high" and "low" literary space? Why an essential part of the poems of the 40s and 50s of the XIX century has been bound to the label of bad taste and poetic dullness? This text tries to complete the image of the period called the Bulgarian Revival, assuming that within its borders there is a place for brave men with guns in hand, and for simple personas - lovers, hedonists, "scientists". Their advantage probably just lies in their inability to become national myths.

This is vol. III from the series “Az, FaceBuki”. The point is like a leper on the carousel. Flies out in pieces while having fun! This is the third attempt to pick up the pieces, sprayed over the years in notepads, napkins, apostrophes and small talks, but especially in the social networks. Of course, what we get is something like the creation of Dr. Frankenstein. Perhaps it is a monstrous human attempt to create something of the pieces and restore the sense that the Creator has put into the Creation. Maybe it makes no sense at all? Perhaps a question of the meaning always comes to the matter of does it make sense to even ask it? Perhaps “sense” is a word that we use to name our pathetic attempts to clean up around and within us. So, after cleaning for more than two years after the appearance of “Dvnevnikut na malkiia Nostradamus” (Diary of the little Nostradamus), I came across a priceless discovery – the dormant pig within me. It received a capital letter – it became the Dormant pig, which got a Facebook page, television fame, undoubtedly due to Ivan Hristov (better known as Ivan of “Ivan and Andrei, a famous media star Bulgarian duo), Ivan Matev (better known as “Super Liubo” from the ad of a telecom) of “Mezhdinna stantsiia” (a TV programme), Nova TV and TV 7 days and all the others who endured from the fall of 2012 until today its magnificent pigness. And especially Miron Krumlov – who adds to the genius of his grandfather Miron Ivanov the wonderful ability to paint - making the illustrations for this third volume of the "Az, FaceBuki".

This book presents chronologically into two sections - articles and reviews - all texts by Malcho Nikolov, which were published in the journal "Zlatorog". It is the first of its design and implementation and tracks the growth of Malcho Nikolov as a critic from his first inspired texts for members of the “Misul” circle to the Bulgarian poets of the 30s and 40s of the last century. This issue also tracks documents, selected from the archives of the critic, most relevant aspects of his individual and creative biography. In his life, devoted to the Bulgarian literature, Malcho Nikolov shares the idea that its recognition should not be simply an objective of the Bulgarian education system, but a part of the education in love of the language and the country. Patriotism without any aggression, which has enlightened humanism as a guiding principle. This is understandable, given that he was a longtime literature teacher and educationalist. This fact makes his texts comprehensible to a wide range of readers and especially useful today, when it is reasonably necessary to read the Bulgarian history reasonably and critically.

So that we have the poor grave of the cherished child of the Bulgarian nation, to have another holy place where we can shed a tear and lift our brow. And what a paradox: everything about his effort was dirty in the breadcrumbs of the clerical irresponsibility and stupidity. In our dear country, where in the offices is hanging the portrait of our Apostle, there is no sign of his holy relics just so that the scientific ambitions of some pseudo-cominterns, europhiles and people with no origin remain intact.

This book by Petur Stefanov traces the critical concept and concept of values on a new scale in the Bulgarian children's literature since the Bulgarian revival, from the "Fish Primer" by Petur Beron, through Vasil Popovich and the golden age of the 20s and 30s, to the contemporary classical fiction and non-fiction prose. This book convincingly demonstrates that children's literature is not only in service of the education, not just a step stone towards the "high" classics. Its values are not only national, but universal. Life, peace, humanism, freedom, security, intelligence, justice, morality, solidarity, tolerance is the "kingdom of values", indivisible and universal human values that the Bulgarian literature for children in its highest forms not only zealously defends as its cause, but also re-creates.

In the face of Boris Khristov (1945) between the late 70s and the late 80s of the twentieth century, the Bulgarian poetry finds its absolute uncrowned ruler. Even in the changed situation after 1989 in Bulgaria, when almost all authorities have been demolished this poet became something of a central, universally recognized authority of Bulgarian poetry. This collection aims to summarize a receptive tradition, to seek grounds of adoration and worship of Boris Khristov’s poetry, to probe into its magnetic effect enhanced by the impact of prose and the movie scripts of Boris Khristov, to read the author's mythical presence that despite the apparent silence surrounding it, it emits more new messages and meanings.

This book by Sava Siriev presents the original and different author’s reading about the literature and more widely about the cultural process. His interpretations through the eyes of the literary analysis, but also of the cultural studies as well as of the theologian. This book is not only a reconstruction of the history of the Bulgarian literature but also of the ethno-culture – in its beginning established by St. Cyril the Slav Bulgarian in the 9th c. until the end of the 20s of the 20th c. In this period of about 1060 years a lots of public attitudes and cultural priorities changed, most of them – eventful. The most important and turning in the mentality of the society process was connected with the sexualization of the society; with the separation of human from the spiritual pillar of God’s wisdom. In result of overcoming the teocentrism and the affirmation of anthropogenically-knowledge and anthropogenically-thinking was reached the destruction of balance in the human soul. And thus – to specific internal upheavals. The author found marks of these mechanisms in the Bulgarian art and literature. He shows these processes and mechanisms in this work by presenting their origin and their development in order to justify the resulting consequences. The book contains 48 articles which must be read concurrence. Each of the texts “remember” and rely of the previous ones. Such of writing is presented also in the Bible – as the Old Testament is read and thought in the New one.

This is Prof. Svetlozar Igov‘s second book, dedicated to the work of the first Balkan Nobel Prize for Literature. It includes the latest work of the Bulgarian expert on the work of Ivo Andrich. After a new synthetic portrait of Andrich, there are different interpretations and issues on his work. A comparison between the images of Andrich’s Aliia Dzherzelez and Iovkov’s Shibil reveals by the gesture of "getting off the pedestal" of their heroic glory a parallel “de-heroization” and humanization of duties in the context of the failed meeting between the writers in Bucharest. Revealed is the spiritual adventure of constructing the unwritten "sea novel“ by Ivo Andrich. In the biographical sketch “Gloria mundi” were followed the Nobel prize days of the laureate of 1961. An entire study is dedicated to Andrich as one of the first accurate diagnosis of the "bloody and muddy movement called fascism".

Iana Iazova’s first novel was released in 1936, and two years later it underwent a second edition. Its reissuing now is not only an act of resurrection of the text or a nod to the author. Conflicts in the novel are alive today. The seemingly sentimental story of "Anna Diulgerova" hides unexpected surprises for the reader, and even helps him to easily understand the feeling of frustration, which, unfortunately, today is pervasive. Only now many of Anna Dyulgerova’s peers prefer to leave the country rather than to act like her or fight for change. Iana Iazova convincingly puts the most dangerous diagnosis: when the people are so tired, that they have no strength to make the decisive step, they fall at the feet of each new deceiver posing as a Messiah.

In a globalized world, reducing the tax burden and the barriers to the international business is a real challenge for the contemporary statesmen. The agreements to avoid the double taxation (DTC) are a classic tool for achieving such a goal, and it has been administered by Bulgaria for nearly 30 years. Their importance is immense for the current and long-term tax planning for cross-border transactions and relations with foreign Partners. Knowing the DTC and the use of opportunities that they provide could be a real competitive advantage. For the first time in this book are collected all DTCs in force in Bulgaria to the current date. Along with the agreements themselves, the book also includes comments on the overall structure and the different versions of the DTC, as well as the rules for their implementation in Bulgaria. Along with the theoretical explanations in the comments are given concrete examples of Bulgarian settlements and the practice that has been developed significantly in the recent years.

So it is a meeting point for scholars from different fields of the humanities - folklore, linguistics, literature, cultural studies, history, which have keen interest in the problems of humor. The articles are grouped around two main problematic areas. The first is devoted to the role and place of humor and its forms in the everyday culture in different social, historical and cultural contexts.    In this book is considered the concept of "Affiliation" - belonging, connectivity group, and offers the adapted for Bulgarian conditions questionnaire of Albert Mekhrabian "Motivatsiia za afiliatsiia". The need for people to be part of a family, professional or other group is so archaic as the need for protection and security of the assimilation of new experiences, for acquisition of material goods to ensure survival. These few basic needs lie in the theoretical models of authors from different theoretical fields of anthropology, sociology, psychology, medicine, management and others. Without doubt, however, the affiliation may be defined as a process of connection within a group, but also as a characteristic of the individual, describing the degree of involvement in the group. The book is an attempt to a more in-depth look at the affiliate trend by looking at the relationship between affiliations and other psychological constructs. In the process of human development, people gain experience and knowledge, which becomes active through interaction with others, which are linked in various areas of life. We’re typical members of the group to which we belong, when we carry the characteristic features of the group, when the interaction has left a mark on our development as traits and behaviors resulting from the requirements of the group. Belonging to a group is a necessary condition by which we come into contact with other people, interact with them, change ourselves and influence their development.

The book is written by the professor at Sofia University "St. Kliment Okhridski " Darin Tenev. How one thought about, on, and through Derrida should allow itself liberties with its attractive -sounding phrases and expressions, tearing them from their immediate context, linking them seemingly freely with other expressions, with other concepts? How to connect that, which is in the work of the French thinker had just remained scattered, disconnected? Where can we track the understated in sentences, in conversations, in the meetings which never happened? A deviation from the letter is clearly there, but this deviation is already in the letter itself.

The proposed collection contains evidences of actual miracles. Most of them occurred in the XX century and are associated with the fates of both the Orthodox believers and the atheists. In some narratives the miracle element seems lacking, but the eyes reveal a much more worthy of astonishment miracle - the inner work of grace in the human soul and its beneficial consequences. In other narratives, the stories describe the wiles of the devilish forces, so we can be protected from them. All these fictitious stories are taken from the complex life and can serve to strengthen the faith and our trust and our love towards the All-gracious, but All-just God.

This book can be compared with drinking water from the source. It answers questions using the methods of the scientific approach. The author decodes the Hebrew names of various angels, according to the terms in the Old Testament. The findings of the Hebrew language picture of the world expand our knowledge of the characteristics and nature of archangels. Using the same method are discussed the fallen angels as well. There are series of comments from the mysticism and the academic biblical studies, and some misconceptions which have been layered over the centuries. The author’s scientific methods give results that successfully compete with the mystical meditations. In the age of yearning for spirituality the text of this book provides stability and verifiability.

This is a book about the early Oktoechos: Sources, Liturgy and Chant Repertory (Based on the Sources until the 13th century). The study is focused primarily on manuscripts (MSS) from the Library of the St. Catherine’s monastery on Mount Sinai. The aim is to show what, where and how according to the (MSS) studied the medieval chant repertoires have been assembled to form an Oktoechos as a book. The importance of the Sinai collection is that it provides materials of the earlier Christian tradition and shows its development in one of the largest and most important Christian centers at least until the 9th century – Jerusalem. The earliest Oktoechos as both a modal system and a chapter of a book is revealed in Sinai MSS of the type of the so-called Topologion book. Studying the early sources helps us to shape a picture of the various processes in the formative period. The study of the book of the Topologion reveals a very interesting picture of an integral written tradition of the latter.

The book focuses on the theory of the identity of the individuals created by modern the Oxford philosopher Derek Parfitt. Reductionism of the figures, as Parfitt calls his concept, gives us unconventional and bold, but along with this, carefully reasoned answers to the fundamental questions such as what constitutes personality when you have to think that one person is the same, and when it can be called another person, what grounds us to act wisely and be morally concerned about other people. Taking us through series of reflections on our understanding of "person," including scientific observations of consciousness, thought experiments and reflections on human morality and social justice, the book traces and provides an assessment of the historical background, intellectual and theoretical time protection of the reductionism Parfitt, designed to not only help us to clarify our understandings of the individuals, but also to change those which - precisely because we ourselves are people - believe confidently, even when they are unfounded or even illusory.

Their occurrence and development over the ages is traced back. Having occurred at various ages (some of the monasteries were founded in the years of the First Bulgarian State), these holy grounds marked their greatest zenith in the 14th century when in Sofia district formed the complex named after the Athonite – Sredechka (Sofia) Mount Athos. In the monograph are outlined the changes that occurred in the social role and rank of Sofia monasteries after the Fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule, and their fate during the Revival and after the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman slavery until nowadays. The book examines forty-six monasteries around Sofia, represented with their architectural and iconographic features. Emphasis is also put on the current state and functions of Sofia monasteries. The celebration of Christian feasts there nowadays is also discussed, showing to what extent the traditional folk customs are preserved and observed. The study is supplemented by information about the patron-saints of the monasteries in Sofia district, as well as about the customs and rituals related to their cult.

Parallel text in Bulgarian and English. The democratic process of opening up of Bulgaria after 1989 as well as the economic conditions of life and the lack of adequate education caused the exodus of a large part of the creative intelligentsia. Both historically and geographically the nearest attractive destination in the developed Western European world turned out to be Vienna, now seen as an gravitational center for many artists. Today numerous artists of Bulgarian origin live and work successfully in Vienna. It is this vibrant and current reality that provided motivation for the exhibition. The exhibition showcases 18 of them: Adriana Czernin (special participation), Plamen Dejanoff (special participation), Mara Mattuschka (special participation), Svetozara Aleksandrova, Borjana Ventzislavova, Vasilena Gankovska, Irina Georgieva, Nestor Kovachev, Lazar Lyutakov, Michail Michailov, Alexandar Peev, Maximilian Pramatarov, Krasimira Stikar, Kamen Stoyanov, Kosta Tonev, Iv Toshain, Desislava Unger and Sevda Chkoutova. Their art reflects on two realities – the old (while living in Bulgaria) and the new country (in Austria) thus having the dynamic mark of the times we are living in. The exhibition project “Bulgarian Artists in Vienna. Contemporary Practices at the Beginning of the 21st Century” is meant to not only present quality artworks but also to analyze certain social and historical processes that are typical for the time. This catalogue was published for presenting the exhibition.

Krasimira Drenska took an active participation in the art life of Bulgaria in the 70s of the 20th c. Today, after decades of absence she again presents her works in Sofia. Her works – a result of year of growing and an impressive art activity in prominent world centers of art – show her grown up art in the lights of various aesthetic and plastic searches. In her works the precise, led to excellence, technical realization is combined with alive and responsive sensitivity; the delicate presence of color and the movement of light bring intimate emotions, and the dramatic collision between white and black turns in opposition of spiritual values. She is well known to the Bulgarian public with her early woodcuts, but today the artist experiments with combinations of techniques looking for the spirited presence of deeply experienced emotion by a contemporary vision. The exhibition was held in Sofia Art Gallery in the period 24.09.2013 – 20.10.2013. The present catalog contains the works of that exhibition.

Parallel text in Bulgarian and English. This is a catalog from a exhibition which celebrates the 80th anniversary of the birth of Lyuben Dimanov – a prominent artist of diverse talents, as testified by his noteworthy contribution to various art genres and respectable presence on both the Bulgarian and the European art scenes. Lyuben Dimanov’s art is among the most significant phenomena in Bulgarian visual arts. One of the leading figures having blazed the trail of new approaches to visual art in the 1960’s, he left a mark that contributed to the development of graphic arts and illustration in our country, creating idiosyncratic, memorable and monumental imagery. The tamed energy of his etchings or water colors, paintings, collages or illustrations move the viewer with its forcefulness and conclusiveness, as well as with the fine nuances of subtle sensitivity. Dimanov’s drawing, which is decorative and elevated, powerful and exquisite at the same time, is not only an introduction to the art of depiction, but also a bridge to spirituality. The SCAG exhibition features selected works belonging to the genres of painting, graphic arts, drawing and collage, presenting various periods of Lyuben Dimanov’s artistic development, starting from the early 1960’s through to the present day. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a 10-piece series of paintings devoted to the ten commandments. Bibliophile editions such as “The Flowers of Evil”, “Sonnets”, “The Divine Comedy”, “When Flame and Rose Become One” are reminiscent of the highest peaks of the artist’s career in book design and illustration. Staying true to his identity in both his early works created in Bulgaria and his mature works created in Paris, the artist reveals the product of years-long artistic development, constituting a blend of expressiveness and spiritual messages.

Parallel text in Bulgarian and French. After a 38-year hiatus, owing to the extraordinary effort of the Embassy of France in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian country host (17 September 2013 - 21 November 2013) a retrospective exhibition of world famous artist Jules Pascin. It featured 115 artworks belonging to the genres of painting, watercolor, drawing, graphic arts, collage, contributed by private collectors and art galleries in Paris, Luxemburg, Oslo, London and Tel Aviv. Jules Pascin was born on 31 March, 1885 in the city of Vidin but in 1892, his family moved to Bucharest. Then he graduated from high school in Vienna. Between 1902 and 1905 he received training at the art academies in Vienna, Budapest, Munich and Berlin. He contributed to the “Simplicissimus “ magazine published in Munich. In 1905, he moved to Paris, where he met his future wife, Hermine David. In 1907, he organized his first solo exhibition at Paul Cassirer’s gallery in Berlin. In 1914 he left for New York, where he lived until 1920. He traveled to the Southern states and Cuba. Then he went back to Paris, where he lived until his death in 1930. In his relatively short life, Pascin spent time in some of the world’s most vibrant cultural centres, namely Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Paris and New York. His art was far from being an isolated fact, it was rather part and parcel of what was going on in the first half of the 20th century. Having had a taste of the global changes in the ways art was viewed at the very turn of the century and having lived in one of the centres of artistic innovation, Vienna, he seemed to always find himself where things happened. As an active participant in the Munich and Berlin art scenes, Pascin reflected in his paintings the influence of Art Noveau, and later – of expressionism. Recognized as a genuine part of the School of Paris, the artist has invariably been associated with the Paris art scene. Having lived in the USA for seven years, where he was granted citizenship, he was the source of influence for a certain circle of American artists. The “Jules Pascin – From Vidin to Paris“ exhibition allows insight into the artist’s rich and versatile legacy. It features plenty of drawings, a genre the artist attached great importance to. The exhibition includes early works created in 1905, when he started contributing to the Munich-based “Simplicissimus “ magazine; works created up to 1914 during his first Parisian period; 1914 –1920 works from his American period; as well as works belonging to his second Parisian period, which lasted until his death in 1930. The exhibition provides the opportunity to view all aspects of Jules Pascin’s artistic persona, namely the draftsman, the illustrator, the cartoonist and the painter; the master nude body, portrait, figure composition and landscape painter, the lyrical bard and the master of satire. Missing any of these aspects would make his image incomplete. Lively and dynamic as a person, he did not linger at the same place for a long time as an artist either – he was bound to search, change and alternate themes and genres. This is Jules Pascin – a restless genius, one of the most intriguing representatives of his time. The present catalogue was published for presenting the exhibition catalogue in Bulgarian and French, including all artworks featured in the exhibition.

The world scientific opinion examine the hypothesis for the beginning of the European culture. This opinion oscillates between the Early Neolithic Balkan-Anatolian Block and the Early Neolithic Mediterranean Block. This book is a contribution to the hypothesis that the Early Neolithic Balkan-Anatolian Block is leading to the beginning of the European culture and was a direct inspiration for the first civilization... Lately many magazines and media (Out time - World's greatest cities, The Daily Telegraph, etc.) ranked the oldest cities on the planet. Plovdiv was honored with 6th place in the world and First in Europe. In ceremonial list was indicated that the onset of Plovdiv immortality was from 4000 ВС Why? In Plovdiv there are near 10 major archaeological sites, 4 of them are prehistoric settlements. Two of them originate from the Neolithic period and have the same name - "Ydssatepe". The second is fully explored by Prof. P. Detev and provided thousands of artefacts in the local museum... All archaeologists are puzzled by the strange collapse of the ascending Balkan cultures that happened in the beginning of Bronze Age. We explored precisely the reasons for the disappearance of the first civilization in the world. AND WE DISCOVERED THE LOST OLD WORLD, which Plato called... ATLANTIS! An astonishing result, with which is forthcoming to familiarize yourself.
