The present issue of ZooKeys comprises a series of papers honoring Prof. Kumar Krishna, the leading authority on the systematics and biology of termites (Isoptera). After becoming exposed to termite systematics under the tutelage of Mittan L. Roonwal in India, Kumar received his doctoral training from the legendary termite systematist and evolutionary biologist Alfred E. Emerson at the University of Chicago. Subsequently, Kumar moved to the City University of New York and the American Museum of Natural History from here, even today, he has produced some of the most important contributions to the study of termites, most notably his two-volume set, Biology of Termites (1969–1970, Academic Press), and the forthcoming monumental Treatise on the Isoptera of the World (AMNH). Herein colleagues and friends recognize his lifetime of accomplishments in biological systematics by presenting original papers on insect lineages as diverse as termites and grasshoppers, and flies and bees, among others. A brief biographical account and list of his publications to date are provided.

On the occasion of the 80th birthday of Ross T. Bell, Professor Emeritus of Entomology at the University of Vermont, his colleagues and former students staged a Festschrift in his honor that included his wife and oft-times co-author, Joyce Bell. Two days of scientific presentations and a field day resulted in twenty-six manuscripts on such diverse organisms as Coleoptera, Collembola, and Diptera and in such disparate fields as taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, with a sprinkling of natural history and cyberinfrastructure. Mostly, the theme of the papers focus on the beetle family Carabidae, on which the Bells spent a number of decades in pursuit of information on taxonomy and biology, particularly for the wrinkled bark beetles, the rhysodines. Twenty-six scientific contributions make up this volume and they are introduced by the preface and first two papers on the Bells themselves and their other contributions to teaching and natural history studies in the environs of Burlington, Vermont.

The issue contains the contributions to the regular 12th Workshop "Nanoscience & Nanotechnology". In the scientific program of "NANO 2010" workshop were presented 95 contributions - 14 oral and 81 posters. Scientits from Bulgaria, Russia, Turkey and Greece took part in the workshop. Many young scientists attended the workshop and presented their results. The traditional "the best poster" was carried out among the young participants of the "NANO 2010". The presented issue includes the contributions, successfully passed the reviewing. It is separated in these sections: "Section A: Theory, Modelling and Simulation"; "Section B: Clusters, Nanoparticles, Composites"; "Section C: Thin Films, Superlayers, Quantium Dots and Nanowires"; "Section D: Nanophrases in Bulk Materials. Nanocomposites"; "Section E: Bioinsired Concepts and Medical Applications"; and "Section F: Micro and Nanoengeneering. Nanomethrology. Nanomagnetism".    Research on Chrysomelidae vol. 3 continues a series which began under Brill Academic Publishers, Leiden, with volume 1 in 2008. Volume 2 appeared in 2009 and had four regularly submitted papers and the Proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on the Chrysomelidae (held 6-8 July, 2008 at Durban, South Africa) with nine papers based on presentations to this meeting. The present volume also combines a number of regular papers with the proceedings of a symposium. In 2010, the European Symposium on the Biology of the Chrysomelidae was held within the frame of the IXth European Congress of Entomology (ECE) at Budapest, Hungary, on August 23. Hungary – as the host country of the congress - has a long tradition of entomological research and always had a marked bridging role in the social life of entomologists of Europe. The ECE has been co-organized by the Hungarian Entomological Society which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010. The Hungarian Entomological Society is one of the oldest scientific societies in Hungary with continuous activity, including the 1950s, when most Hungarian societies were dissolved by the communist government. This congress offered an important opportunity for entomologist to exchange ideas, results, and social matters. On top of all, the city of Budapest provided a beautiful background to this memorable scientific and social event. We, the organisers of the Symposium on Chrysomelidae, are proud and happy to see our conference represented by five papers based on contributions to it in vol. 157 of ZooKeys (Research on Chrysomelidae vol. 3). Four more papers on leaf beetles complete this volume. We thank authors and publishers for helping to make research on leaf beetles more visible and easier to access.

The book revise the New World species of the subgenera Allotrichoma Becker and Neotrichoma (new subgenus) (genus Allotrichoma). For phylogenetic perspective to this revision, the authors have studied all genusgroup taxa within the tribe Hecamedini and reassessed their cladistic relationships. Their phylogenetic study for taxa within the genus Allotrichoma has been done at the species-group level, and they have attempted to approach this globally by examining species from throughout the world and placing them into appropriate species groups. Within Allotrichoma, present three subgenera. All known species from the New World are described with an emphasis on structures of the male terminalia, which are fully illustrated. We more than double the number of species known from the New World with six of 12 species in the subgenus Allotrichoma being described herein, and in a newly described subgenus, Neotrichoma, two of the three species from the New World are also described.

ZooKeys #167. Systematics, conservation and morphology of the spider genus Tayshaneta (Araneae, Leptonetidae) in Central Texas Caves

The book revises the spider genus Tayshaneta based on results from a three gene phylogenetic analysis (Ledford et al. 2011) and a comprehensive morphological survey using scanning electron (SEM) and compound light microscopy. The morphology and relationships within Tayshaneta are discussed and five species-groups are supported by phylogenetic analyses: the anopica group, the coeca group, the myopica group, the microps group and the sandersi group. Short branch lengths within Tayshaneta contrast sharply with the remaining North American genera and are viewed as evidence for a relatively recent radiation of species. The authors study and compare variation in troglomorphic morphology to patterns found in other Texas cave invertebrates. Several species previously known as single cave endemics have wider ranges than expected, suggesting that some caves are not isolated habitats but instead form part of interconnected karst networks. Distribution maps are compared with karst faunal regions (KFR’s) in Central Texas and the implications for the conservation and recovery of Tayshaneta species are discussed. Ten new species are described: T. archambaulti sp. n., T. emeraldae sp. n., T. fawcetti sp. n., T. grubbsi sp. n., T. madla sp. n., T. oconnorae sp. n., T. sandersi sp. n., T. sprousei sp. n., T. vidrio sp. n. and T. whitei sp. n. The males for three species, T. anopica (Gertsch, 1974), T. devia (Gertsch, 1974) and T. microps (Gertsch, 1974) are described for the first time. Tayshaneta furtiva (Gertsch, 1974) and T. uvaldea (Gertsch, 1974) are declared nomina dubia as the female holotypes are not diagnosable and efforts to locate specimens at the type localities were unsuccessful. All Tayshaneta species are thoroughly illustrated, diagnosed and keyed. Distribution maps are also provided highlighting areas of taxonomic ambiguity in need of additional sampling.
